Summer 2019 Newsletter

The Friends of the Garden board of directors had a very busy 2019 Season.  In March, there was a joint event with the Friends of the Royal Alberta Museum and it was held at the museum in Edmonton.  The talk was entitled ‘Why Do We Collect?’ and there was a lot of publicity before the day on radio and tv.  It was well attended and enjoyed by all. Money raised from this event was used to pay for the Friend of the Garden Date Night on June 27.

A Celebration of Friendship – Date Night was the first time that the Friends hosted an evening at the garden.  The garden looked after the food and drinks and the Friends supplied the cake and entertainment.  Despite the rainy weather, many people attended and enjoyed the tours, food and music.  Another Date Night will hopefully be hosted by the Friends of the Garden next year.

On July 28, there was a historical walk in the garden that ended up at the David Thompson house for Welsh goodies.  It’s great to learn about the history of some of the different gardens.  On August 19 and 20, FOG ran another successful casino. We had many wonderful volunteers who gave their time generously once again.

Our last 2019 event, will be September 8 at the Field House.  Since the garden closed September 2 this is a last chance look around and we will enjoy a talk on Chickadee Research and then hope to see some of the cute birds afterwards.  Then we will have our annual potluck lunch and catch up with our members.

Don’t forget to use your FOG membership to get discounts on Luminaria tickets.  If you haven’t renewed your membership now is a great time so you will be set to go next season.  Thank you to all our generous donors as well!
